What It Is: A melding of traditional, stat-based role-playing game tenets with the pick-up-and-play simplicity of a first-person shooter, Borderlands wraps a complex genre inside a far more twitchy, skill-based one. Why It's Hot: We all know how licensed games usually turn out, but in stark contrast to the mere months that some projects get, Ubisoft was actually able to spend years on the video game adaptation of the flick. And it's going to be in 3D, too (for TVs that can support the tech). What It Is: The videogame complement to the 3D, CG-laden epic from James Cameron, Avatar provides an interesting mix of multiplayer action and story-driven exploration of the world created for the big screen.
